Report: Bulgaria pres goes to court over Lukoil port deal ending

MOSCOW, Aug 4 (PRIME) -- Bulgarian President Rumen Radev has sent a lawsuit to the constitutional court over termination of a concession agreement with Russian oil company Lukoil for the port of Rosenets by parliament, a spokesperson for the president told the Bulgarian National Television on Friday.

"The immediacy of legal changes for termination of the concession for the Rosenets port contradicts the rule of law, on which the Constitution is based, and is also an instance of an undue approach to the government and the citizens," the spokesperson said.

The president also said that the decision did not take into account the benefit of customers, did not account for the risks of rising fuel and raw materials' prices, loss of thousands of jobs and possible lawsuits against Bulgaria.

Parliamentarian group PP–DB (of the parties We Continue the Change and Democratic Bulgaria) suggested stopping the concession deal for the port terminal with Lukoil's affiliate Lukoil Neftohim Burgas in July. After that, parliament said it was to terminate the deal because of sanctions against Russia.
